Qualification : Matriculation (Matriculate or 10th class in 10+02 examination system recognized by Board i.e. COBSE/India or any other recognized Board with minimum 50% marks (excluding additional subjects) and ITI certificate in the relevant trade affiliated to NCVT compulsory in relevant trade.

Age Limit : The candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 24 years of age as on 01.01.2015
Standards of fitness for the Physically challenged candidates : Only Loco motor or Cerebral palsy (OH) who suffers from not less than 40% of relevant disability and Hearing Handicapped having 60 decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequency are eligible to apply.
Training Period & Stipend : As per as per extant rules & directives issued by Railway Board from time to time.
For LOCO motor or Cerebral palsy (OH)
1. Fitter:- Lower limb partially damaged from one side can join
2. Turner:Lower limb partially damaged from one side can join
3. Machinist: Only small finger damaged can join
4. Welder: A person without leg and without three finger of one hand can be accommodated.
5. Electrician: Partially lower limb candidates can be accommodated.
A physically handicapped person who wants to avail the benefit of reservation would have to submit a disability certificate issued by a competent authority (i.e. Medical Board duly constituted by the Central or State Government).
Application Fee : An account payee Bank Draft on any Nationalized Bank or Postal order drawn in favour of FA & CAO, South Eastern Railway/Garden Reach, payable at Kolkata amounting toRs. 100/- as a processing fee which is not refundable / transferable under any circumstances should be enclosed along with the Application Form. No Bank Draft/P.O. is required for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PH/Ex.Service

Agreement of Training : Before commencement of the Apprenticeship training in the designated trade, the selected candidate or, if he/she is a minor his/her guardian has to enter into a contract of apprenticeship with the employer.
Medical Fitness : Selected candidates will be engaged as Act. Apprentice under Apprentices Act. 1961 & Apprenticeship Rules 1962, subject to the Medical Fitness to be certified by a Railway Doctor .
Mode of Selection : a) Engagement of Act. Apprentices will be done only on the basis of marks obtained in the Matriculation Examination or 10th class in the 10+2 Examination system and minimum marks of eligibility shall be kept at 50% in aggregate (excluding additional subject) and having ITI certificate in the relevant trade is compulsory. No extra weightage shall be granted to candidates having higher qualification. Candidates equal to 1.25 times of the number of slots for Act. Apprentices shall be called for verification of original testimonials.
